Celebrating World Opera Day 2026: Why Opera Needs You
Industry News
Opera is a collective art form. It depends on artists, institutions, donors and audiences working together.
Our network includes more than 130 opera houses, festivals, dance companies and cultural organisations in 28 countries, as well as individual and corporate donors.
We have supported 39 winning projects, through the FEDORA Prizes and the Next Stage Initiative, and the European Commission’s Creative Europe programme has renewed its funding of our platform until 2028.
Since 2013, the FEDORA Prizes encourage the next generation of talent to bring the unexpected to the stage. The prizes support cutting-edge artistic projects that promote collaboration, creativity, social integration, intercultural dialogue, as well as digital innovation on and beyond the stage.
In 2021, FEDORA and Opera Europa launched the Next Stage Initiative to trigger change and recovery in the opera and dance sector. This initiative provides financial support and skills development to boost innovation through sustainability, inclusivity, and digital transformation.
All those who share a commitment to opera and its future, whether as individuals, companies or foundations, are welcome to be part of this collective effort and to help ensure that new work continues to reach audiences across Europe and beyond.
